Engineering & R&D
At WJM, we have a professional and experienced engineering and R&D team dedicated to the development of silicone and plastic products. We not only manufacture products, but also provide a one-stop engineering solution from concept to mass production, helping our customers turn ideas into reliable, mass-producible products quickly and efficiently.
Project Kick-off Requirements
At the early stage of development, customers can provide either:
-
3D drawings (STEP / STP / IGS format), or
-
Physical samples / reference samples
Our engineering team will evaluate the manufacturability (DFM) of the product and optimize the structure, materials, and production process to ensure stable and efficient mass production.
Standard Engineering Development Process & Lead Time
1. Mold Design Data Preparation (2–3 Days)
Based on the 3D drawings or samples provided by the customer, our engineering team will:
-
Analyze the product structure
-
Confirm parting lines, draft angles, wall thickness, and assembly details
-
Prepare complete mold design drawings and 3D data for tooling
After customer confirmation, the project will proceed to the next stage.
2. Prototype / Mock-up Sample (About 5 Days)
After the structure is confirmed:
-
We will produce a prototype using CNC machining or 3D printing (depending on product structure)
-
The prototype will be sent to the customer for:
-
Structure verification
-
Dimension check
-
Assembly and functional testing
-
This step helps minimize tooling risks before official mold making.
3. Tooling Development & T1 Samples (10–15 Days)
After the customer confirms the prototype structure:
-
We will start the official mold making process (silicone mold or plastic injection mold)
-
Conduct the first trial (T1) after tooling completion
-
Provide official functional / engineering samples
These samples are already close to or at mass production standard and can be used for:
-
Market testing
-
Customer approval
-
Pilot production
-
Certification testing
Our Engineering Advantages
-
Extensive experience in silicone and plastic product development
-
Familiar with multiple processes: LSR, solid silicone, overmolding, double-shot injection, precision injection, etc.
-
DFM concept implemented from the design stage
-
Fast prototyping and fast tooling mechanism
-
Integrated optimization of structure, tooling, and manufacturing process
Overall Project Lead Time (Reference)
| Stage | Lead Time |
|---|---|
| Mold design data preparation | 2–3 days |
| Prototype sample | ~5 days |
| Tooling & T1 samples | 10–15 days |
| Total | Approx. 17–23 days |
The actual lead time may vary depending on product structure complexity, size, and process requirements.
